The Higher Education Facilities Management Association of Southern Africa held a successful maiden meeting of its South Gauteng Regional Chapter at the Wits Club in the University of Witwatersrand.
This gathering was a culmination of the establishment of Eight (8) Regional Chapters of HEFMA across Southern Africa. The chapters are a platform for collaboration and peer benchmarking at a regional level given the growth of the organisation in terms of constituency base.
In Opening the session, the Chairperson of the Chapter Ms Nare Mokobane said “We are pleased that this day has finally come and we’re delighted to welcome all of you here. This meeting derives from the Terms of Reference for the Regional Chapters as adopted by the Executive Committee of HEFMA which provide for regional collaboration, benchmarking and information sharing”.
In attendance were all the constituents of the regional chapter which include; the University of Johannesburg, Central Johannesburg College, Vaal University of Technology, Ekurhuleni West College, Sedibeng College, Ekurhuleni East College, West College, South West College and University of Witwatersrand.
The event was also graced by Two Executive Committee Members namely; Lindokuhle Mzolo - HEFMA President and Israel Mogomotsi - Director of Business Partners & Professional Affairs.

Mr Lindokuhle Mzolo - HEFMA President
The President presented on the History of HEFMA and the background for the establishment of the chapters. He had this to say “HEFMA was founded 23 Years ago by Universities for institutions of higher learning by transforming the erstwhile Tertiary Institutions Maintenance Conference (TIMCON) into a broad based Facilities Management Association. It has significantly grown and gained traction over the years and further fostered Business partnerships locally and internationally. It recently included TVET colleges. The establishment of the chapters was both necessary and timely for benchmarking, collaboration and also meaningful induction of the TVET colleges in order to bring them on par with other historical HEFMA members. We therefore wish the chapter well in its work and we pledge our fullest support”.
