UNAM opens campus expansion contest

The University of Namibia (UNAM) has launched an open international competition to expand its Katima Mulilo campus.

Supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development – the competition seeks a masterplan and conceptual proposals for new eco-friendly facilities on a 33 hectare plot overlooking the Zambezi river.

Planned to complete in 2022, project will expand the prestigious university’s Katima Mulilo campus which currently hosts around 700 students and specialises in wildlife management, eco-tourism and animal health.

Founded in 1935, Katima Mulilo is located in the extreme north east of Namibia within the Caprivi region which is famous for its dense wildlife population.

According to the contract notice: ‘The contract will be awarded to an independent consultant firm or a consortium of two or three partners with proven experience in architectural design, building management and development of tertiary level learning.
‘Ideally, the consultant should have experience in wildlife management and ecotourism in the region of southern Africa, and a minimum annual turnover of £1 million.’

The deadline for applications is 12noon local time (GMT+1) on 26 September.
