up'S Facilities Management scoops up four awards at the annual SALI Awards of Excellence

The University of Pretoria's Department of Facilities Management: Campus Services (Landscaping Division) recently won four awards (one gold, one silver and two bronze) for excellence in various categories of the annual South African Landscapers Institute (SALI) Awards of Excellence. They were awarded for landscaping projects undertaken on some of the University's campuses over the past year.

The gold award went to the University's Groenkloof Campus in the 'Landscape and turf maintenance' category, while the silver award went to the HW Snyman Building entrance garden on the Prinshof Campus in the 'Landscape construction with design by others' category. The bronze awards were awarded to the Soccer B Field on the Groenkloof Campus in the category 'Specialised turf construction', and the A Field at the LC de Villiers Sports Campus, also in the 'Landscape and turf maintenance' category.

This year a total of 144 projects were entered into the competition of which a total of 110 projects – up from 75 last year – were evaluated during the national round. This gives an indication of the high standard of entries. The largest number of projects – 45 entries – was entered into the 'Landscape and turf maintenance' category. This makes the fact that UP walked away with two awards in this category an exceptional achievement.
