NWU Mafikeng: Using digital technology to enhance teaching-learning

The Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) is finding new ways of using digital technology to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. A two-day workshop organised by the Academic Development Centre (ADC) was the very way of doing so.

The workshop was attended by lecturers from various faculties and focuses and aimed to empower lecturers with regard to blended learning - linking technology to teaching and learning.

The objective was to not only make lecturers comfortable with exploring new technologies that will enhance their students’ learning experience, but also to encourage them to implement it on a daily basis. "Technology will not replace lecturers, lecturers who use technology will replace those who don’t," said Mr Nico Bard from the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein who facilitated the workshop.

During the workshop all styles of teaching using various technology devices were discussed, as well as the importance of traditional ways of teaching.

The lecturers who attended the workshop said that this will give their students time to learn at their own pace in their space and time and will also improve their flexibility with regard to learning.
