Contract Manager - Department of Facilities Management

The University of Pretoria is looking for a contracts manager to join their facilities management department.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· A degree in Engineering plus five years’ appropriate experience; OR
A National Diploma in Engineering plus eight years’ appropriate experience;
· Practical experience in air-conditioning and ventilation, mechanical, electrical, electronic services as well as general building maintenance in a property related environment;
· Sound knowledge of the following 5 technical disciplines:
o Electronic services;
§ CCTV; §
Alarms;
§ Access control;
§ Fire detection and evacuation systems;
o Electrical;
o Air-conditioning;
o Plumbing;
o General building;
· Appropriate language and communication skills;
· Administrative skills to ensure that all records are kept in orderly fashion
· Organising skills to organise (people and work) in a logical manner in order to reach set objectives;
· Accounting and budget control skills;
· Computer literacy in MS Office and especially Excel;
· The ability to identify and solve high priority problems in a crisis situation.

Job Specification
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will assist the Senior Assistant Director : Maintenance in carrying out his responsibilities by attending to technical problems and other related matters in an allocated area of responsibility in accordance with the UP standard and the Client’s specific needs. To enable the Contract Manager to achieve this objective, he/she will need to attend to the following:

    Operate plant and equipment in accordance with the University’s business requirements;
    Management of external service providers (breakdown and planned maintenance);
    Maintenance planning in area of responsibility;
    Performance reporting on planned and breakdown work;
    Managing the following types of projects:
        Minor alteration projects;
        Refurbishing facilities and infrastructure;
        New infrastructure;
    Complying with statutory requirements with regard to maintenance and operation of installations, machinery, systems and equipment as well as during project execution (construction).
